INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A man in Indianapolis faces a slew of charges after allegedly attempting to murder his estranged wife in two separate incidents just days apart.
Carlton Gray, 46, is accused of trying to hit his wife with his car as she left work at a local Goodwill store, where police say he had regularly harassed her. Authorities claim this was not an isolated threat, as the woman reported Gray frequently told her, “I’m going to kill you.”
Merely a day after the car incident, Gray allegedly infiltrated a residence where his estranged wife was staying and opened fire, striking her in the leg after unleashing five shots.
Court records reveal Gray now faces charges including two counts each of attempted murder and intimidation, alongside charges of burglary and battery with a deadly weapon. He also faces an unlawful possession charge stemming from his status as a serious violent felon.
Gray’s criminal history includes an arrest for domestic battery in 2005 and an open case for reckless homicide dating back to 2020.
Gray’s legal troubles compounded with a recent court appearance regarding his latest charges, where he was given a bond set at $200,000. Conditions for his release, should he post bond, involve a no-contact order with his wife, mandatory GPS monitoring, and home detention. His next scheduled court date is slated for June 11.
Despite his current incarceration, Gray continues to be a person of interest in the ongoing reckless homicide case. The allegations surrounding the attempted murder charges underscore a history of violent behavior that has brought increasing legal scrutiny on Gray.
The woman confirmed to authorities that she has been the target of continuous threats not only against her own life but also against her new partner, as Gray purportedly menaced her current boyfriend with similar death threats.
As the investigation progresses, the mounting charges highlight a pattern of repeated violent conduct, drawing attention to the increasing concerns about Gray’s potential menace should he be released.
