Joanna Parrish, 20, was raped and beaten before her death in May 1990. A woman who is accused of being involved in her rape, kidnapping, and murder is set to go on trial. Monique Olivier, 75, is alleged to have been part of her ex-husband Michel Fourniret’s killing of Joanna Parrish, who was an English teaching assistant in France when she was killed. Her body was found naked in the River Yonne nearby, and the autopsy showed signs of rape and assault.
Fourniret, who confessed to Parrish’s murder three years before dying in 2021 while in prison, had committed to multiple murders. Now, Olivier, already serving a life sentence, will face a three-week trial to answer three charges of murder, including the killing of Parrish. She has admitted to luring victims into her husband’s clutches before he murdered them and helped dispose of their bodies.
Roger Parrish, her father, fought for justice for years after her body was found. However, his efforts and intensive police investigations were all in vain. Parrish had faced many personal struggles and visits to France, and continued to fight despite the mistakes made in the murder investigation.
The trial for Olivier is set to commence on November 28, 2023, lasting for three weeks, and the verdict date is set for December 15, 2023. Gloucestershire Police asked media outlets to respect the family’s privacy during this trial. Their request comes after years of extensive investigations by the French authorities into the killings for the past 33 years. The verdict is anticipated to be significant for the family, who are still trying to come to terms with Parrish’s death.
