RICHMOND, KY – Nearly four years after Ella Jackson vanished under suspicious circumstances, her husband, Glenn Jackson, has entered an Alford plea that will likely conclude the high-profile case that gripped central Kentucky.

Glenn Jackson, 45, appeared in court just days before his scheduled murder trial to plead guilty under the Alford doctrine to a lesser charge of manslaughter in connection with his wife’s death. In addition, he pleaded guilty to charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. An Alford plea allows a defendant to maintain their innocence while acknowledging that prosecutors have enough evidence to potentially secure a conviction.

Ella Jackson, a 47-year-old mother, was reported missing in late October 2019 after she failed to return home in Richmond. At the time, Glenn Jackson, a former Eastern Kentucky University professor, told investigators that his wife had left for a walk in a nearby park on October 20 and never returned. Concern deepened when authorities learned she had left behind her young son, her dog, her purse, and her cell phone.

As search efforts ramped up, detectives uncovered troubling aspects of Ella’s recent life. Days before her disappearance, she had reportedly sought advice from a domestic violence advocate. Police began to gather evidence that raised further suspicions about her husband’s involvement, including several recordings Ella made of arguments with Glenn Jackson, and statements to friends expressing fear for her safety.

Court documents reveal a significant breakthrough in the investigation occurred in April 2020 when a search of the couple’s property and vehicles led to the discovery of a large amount of blood in the trunk of Glenn Jackson’s car, later identified as belonging to Ella Jackson. Shortly after her husband’s arrest that same month, human remains were recovered in a wooded area of Pulaski County, several miles from the family’s home. Dental records confirmed the remains as Ella Jackson.

The cause of Ella Jackson’s death could not be conclusively determined, although prosecutors disclosed that she had suffered a skull fracture. Despite the uncertainty surrounding exactly how Ella died, the evidence was deemed sufficient to resolve the charges against Glenn Jackson without the need for a jury trial.
