Killer flees the country after family of four found slaughtered in burning New York home

IRONDEQUOIT, NY – A man suspected in a brutal quadruple murder in upstate New York has been apprehended in the Dominican Republic after a prolonged international search, the U.S. Marshals Service announced.

Luis Soriano, 31, known by the alias Jefry Yevo, was on the run for nearly a year following the grisly discovery of four bodies in a basement in the town of Irondequoit, near Rochester, last summer. Soriano is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, arson, burglary, kidnapping, and narcotics offenses.

The horrifying case started to unfold on August 31, 2024, after emergency responders were alerted to a fire. Upon investigation, they found the bodies of Fraime Ubaldo, 30, Marangely Moreno Santiago, 26, and their children, Evangeline and Sebastian, aged four and two, all victims of an apparent homicide.

“This was unlike anything I had ever encountered in my career,” said Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters at the time, noting the tragedy struck the community deeply on what should have been a family-centered holiday.

Julio Soriano, 34, Luis Soriano’s sibling, was taken into custody shortly after the incident. He faced charges similar to those his brother now faces and has maintained his innocence in court. Both men were reportedly related to the victim family, through the children’s father’s side.

Luis Soriano had allegedly fled to Puerto Rico initially and was subsequently placed on the territory’s most wanted list. Investigative efforts eventually tracked him to the Dominican Republic, his native country.

Authorities confirmed that Soriano had been living and working in Punta Cana, where agents apprehended him peacefully after his work shift at a local hotel’s call center.

U.S. Marshal Wilmer Ocasio-Ibarra praised the coordinated efforts that led to Soriano’s arrest, emphasizing the importance such cases hold for the justice system. He noted the case’s impact reverberated beyond local communities, catalyzing an international search due to the alarming nature of the crime involving innocent children.
