SAN ANTONIO, TX- Three weeks after a dispute between a landlord and tenant ended in a deadly shooting, the shooter, who had claimed self-defense, was charged with murder. The incident occurred on December 14 on the 1000 block of West Huisache Avenue in San Antonio.
The altercation began as a result of a dispute between a tenant and the landlord’s boyfriend. The tenant, David Beck, 41, had successfully appealed an eviction notice given by the landlord. On the morning of the shooting, Beck attempted to serve the landlord with the appeal, sparking an argument.
The landlord’s boyfriend, Shawn Pivonka, made an aggressive move toward Beck, who responded by pulling out a gun in self-defense. However, Pivonka then pulled out his own gun in an offensive manner and shot Beck, who later died on the way to the hospital.
After reviewing multiple videos of the incident from cell phones and surveillance footage, detectives gathered enough evidence to issue a murder warrant for Pivonka on December 20.
Pivonka is now facing murder charges for the shooting death of David Beck, bringing closure to the tragic incident that stemmed from a landlord-tenant dispute. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences that can arise from conflicts between landlords and tenants.
