PONCHATOULA, LA – A man from Tangipahoa Parish is facing serious charges after authorities allege he bit off part of a woman’s face during a prolonged domestic violence incident that unfolded in a quiet Ponchatoula neighborhood late last month.
Deputies say Brandon Patrick, 31, was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of domestic abuse battery resulting in serious bodily injury, as well as false imprisonment. The incident reportedly took place at a residence the suspect shared with the victim, located about 50 miles northwest of New Orleans.
Investigators revealed that the violence, which left the woman hospitalized, happened on January 27, but believe the ordeal began days earlier. According to law enforcement officials, the victim had been forcibly held inside the home for several days before she managed to escape. Authorities report that during her attempt to break free, Patrick allegedly attacked her, biting off a section of her face.
After the victim’s escape, she was able to alert authorities, prompting an immediate search for Patrick. Deputies warned the public that Patrick should be considered dangerous and requested assistance in locating him. The man was described as having unique features, including tattoos on both arms—a full sleeve on his right and a half-sleeve on his left featuring a house and scroll—along with a visible scar on his right hand. Officials also noted Patrick is an identical twin, but said the tattoos should aid in accurate identification.
Deputies also stated that Patrick did not own a car and may have relied on strangers for transportation while evading law enforcement. Additionally, authorities indicated that Patrick has suspected ties to a local gang, heightening concerns for public safety during the search.
Patrick ultimately turned himself in at a law enforcement substation in Hammond on January 30, ending a manhunt that stretched for several tense days. Authorities indicated his surrender was without incident.
The relationship status between Patrick and the woman has not been formally clarified, although officials confirmed the two lived together at the time, and that all of the events in question unfolded within their shared home.
The woman, whose name has not been released for safety reasons, was initially hospitalized to treat extensive facial injuries. She has since been discharged and is continuing her recovery in a secure location. Authorities have described her condition as stable, but the investigation remains active.
Detectives say further charges could be possible as the investigation unfolds, with law enforcement continuing to gather evidence and interview possible witnesses.
Officials are encouraging anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office as they continue working to support the victim and seek justice.
