BANGOR, ME – A Maine man was arrested twice within two days after an incident involving self-inflicted injuries allegedly intended to falsely accuse his girlfriend.

Aric Houghton, 30, found himself in custody after police responded to domestic violence accusations on January 7. Houghton’s girlfriend reported that he assaulted her, leading to charges of domestic violence, aggravated assault, and obstruction. Houghton was later released but quickly found himself back in legal trouble.

On January 8, Houghton contacted authorities, claiming that his girlfriend had attacked him. When police arrived, Houghton bore multiple cuts on his face, purportedly from an altercation involving a razor blade. However, during questioning, his girlfriend disputed these claims, asserting that Houghton had injured himself in an attempt to incriminate her.

The Bangor Police Department shared that Houghton had gained access to the woman’s apartment with a key following his release. His return visit unraveled as police arrived to investigate his claims of being attacked. Houghton was subsequently taken to the hospital due to the facial lacerations.

According to the woman, after his release, Houghton assaulted her once more and then proceeded to cut himself, allegedly declaring his intention to have her arrested for assault. She communicated to the authorities her fear that Houghton might have returned with the intent to kill her.

As a result of the second call, the woman also required medical attention for injuries sustained during the alleged January 8 altercation.

Houghton was apprehended again and faces additional charges, including another count of domestic violence, aggravated assault, and violation of his release conditions. He remains detained at Penobscot County Jail. No bond information was available in the jail records.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the legal process continues to unfold, with both parties facing the consequences of the events that transpired over that tumultuous weekend.
