Man bludgeoned girlfriend’s relative with brick and dumps remains in wildlife refuge

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Federal prosecutors have revealed the chilling details of a May murder involving an Oklahoma couple and a 68-year-old woman. Tevin Terrell Semien, 29, and his girlfriend, Nicole Leigh Logsdon, 24, have been indicted for a brutal crime that has shocked the local community.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Oklahoma reported that the accused pair were involved in the murder of Karon “Dinkers” Conneywerdy Smith, who was allegedly bludgeoned to death by Semien with a brick at her own residence. Semien confessed to the killing, telling authorities he had agreed to murder Smith on the request of his girlfriend, Logsdon, following a dispute between the two women.

Authorities discovered Smith’s body on May 17, 2023, within the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Smith, a member of the Comanche Nation, leaves behind a tribe now grappling with the loss. The subsequent investigation into her homicide turned up blood evidence suggesting a violent struggle occurred at her home, where her vehicle was also noted to be missing.

The search for the suspects came to a head on May 21, when Texas law enforcement spotted the slain woman’s vehicle south of Dallas. A high-speed pursuit ensued, ending with Semien and Logsdon crashing into a lake and attempting escape on foot until their capture.

Semien attempted to deny the crime at first but eventually admitted to his actions to law enforcement. He has pleaded guilty to both second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. Logsdon, described both as Semien’s girlfriend and the victim’s relative, has pleaded guilty to her role as an accessory after the fact to murder, conceding that she assisted Semien in avoiding arrest and prosecution.

Facing severe legal repercussions, Semien could spend the rest of his life in federal prison, while Logsdon’s assistance after the murder could lead to a 15-year prison sentence. The case now stands as a grim reminder of the tragic outcomes stemming from domestic disputes and the severe consequences of engaging in such heinous criminal activity.
