A jury in Washington D.C. has convicted a man who posed with his boots on a desk in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The man, Richard Barnett, was found guilty on all eight counts against him, including violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, theft of public money, property, or records, and entering and remaining in a restricted building.
Barnett, who was seen in photos and videos resting his feet on Pelosi’s desk, was among the first rioters to enter the Capitol and take control of the building. He also stole a piece of mail off the desk, which he later bragged about on social media.
The verdict is the latest in a series of convictions related to the Jan. 6 insurrection, with more than 400 people facing charges related to the incident.
Barnett’s conviction is a stark reminder of the consequences of participating in the riot, and serves as a warning to those who may be considering similar acts of violence or disruption.
The jury’s decision comes as the Biden administration continues to push for a bipartisan commission to investigate the attack on the Capitol and its causes.
