Manchester United have secured a 3-0 victory in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest. Bruno Fernandes, Weghorst and Marcus Rashford scored the goals for United, with the latter two coming in the second half.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased with his team’s performance, saying: “It was a great performance from the lads. We were dominant throughout and created a lot of chances. We’re delighted with the result and now look forward to the second leg.”
Nottingham Forest manager Erik Ten Hag was disappointed with his team’s performance, saying: “We weren’t at our best tonight and Manchester United deserved their victory. We have to pick ourselves up and go again in the second leg.”
Wout Weghorst, who scored United’s second goal, said: “It was a great team performance from us. We were clinical in front of goal and dominated the game from start to finish. We know there’s still a lot of work to do, but this was a good start.”
The second leg of the semi-final will take place in two weeks’ time, with Manchester United looking to secure their place in the final.
