Man uses broken broomstick to stab his 76-year-old mother in the eye

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI – A Michigan man is facing serious charges after allegedly killing his mother with a broken broomstick, an act of violence discovered by his own brother and leading to a violent altercation between the siblings, authorities report.

Armando Streeter, 46, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and assault with intent to murder, both carrying the potential for life sentences. He is accused of murdering his 76-year-old mother, Loretta Streeter, at their shared St. Clair Shores home on April 5. The prosecutor’s office has labeled him a significant threat both to the public and to his surviving brother, William Streeter.

The grim discovery unfolded when William found his mother with a broomstick lodged in her eye. Security footage and audio captured a disturbance in the house earlier that day, including the sounds of a struggle and banging in the area where Loretta was later found.

Authorities say William reported the incident to police, revealing harrowing details about the encounter. Detective Sgt. Brad Benac described how “a female voice” could be heard attempting to communicate with the suspect, seemingly requesting help during the distressing event.

The situation escalated further when Armando attacked his brother amid the chaos. As William was informing a 911 dispatcher of their mother’s condition, Armando allegedly assaulted him with a makeshift weapon and tried to strangle him, necessitating additional charges of assault with intent to murder.

Court documents show that Armando Streeter has experienced mental health issues and faced prior legal troubles. He was previously arrested for a domestic assault against his mother in November 2024, though those charges were later dropped for unspecified reasons.

Prosecutors are taking a firm stance, seeking to deny bail for Armando, whom they consider an ongoing threat. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized the severity of the situation, underscoring the justice system’s commitment to addressing such acts of violence.

During the arraignment in the 40th St. Clair Shores District Court, Judge Craigen Oster decided against setting bail, keeping Armando in custody. Armando’s cause conference is scheduled for April 15, 2025, at which further details of the case are expected to be examined.

The community remains shaken by the tragic events as law enforcement officials in St. Clair Shores continue their investigation into the grim circumstances surrounding Loretta Streeter’s death. Her son now awaits further court proceedings that will determine the course of justice for the crimes he is accused of committing.
