Rockville, Maryland – A Maryland teenager was arrested on Wednesday after authorities were alerted to his plans for two school shootings detailed in a 129-page document. Alex Ye, 18, of Rockville, faces a charge of threats of mass violence following an investigation by the FBI and local police.

The document seized by authorities outlined Ye’s intentions to commit a school shooting, including strategies on how to carry out the act. Ye also expressed a desire to target an elementary school and mentioned his wish for notoriety, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

Despite his plans for mass violence, Ye shared that his ultimate goal was to become a serial killer. Authorities have been monitoring him since early March, with increased security measures implemented at schools, including Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville where Ye had previously attended.

A concerned individual alerted authorities to the document, which Ye referred to as a “memoir,” detailing plans for a shooting. While Ye claimed it was fictional, court records indicate that the contents were alarming enough for officials to take action.

Ye’s internet searches included information on gun ranges and past school shootings, leading prosecutors to believe he posed a significant threat. He had been hospitalized previously for making threats of violence, but it was unclear why he was released despite continued concerns about his intentions.

Although Ye did not have access to a weapon, a gun belonging to his father was discovered in their home during a police search. Authorities remain vigilant, considering Ye a legitimate threat even after his removal from the school.

Despite not attending school in person since the fall of 2022, Ye continued his education through a remote learning program. Police emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious behavior, highlighting the role of vigilant community members in preventing potential acts of violence.
