CATONSVILLE, MD – A wedding celebration took a deadly turn early Sunday morning when a Maryland woman allegedly fatally stabbed her sister with a utility knife following an argument in a Catonsville driveway. The 29-year-old suspect, Brianna Kathleen Jarrells, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her sister, Alyssa Jarrells, 31.
The incident occurred around 1:35 a.m. in the 5600 block of Wilkens Avenue, just outside Baltimore. According to court documents, the sisters had returned to the home of Alyssa’s boyfriend after the wedding. An argument that began as minor escalated to fatal violence.
Alyssa’s boyfriend, who witnessed the altercation, informed police that the tension between the sisters heightened throughout the night, though the cause of the argument remains unknown. As Alyssa lay wounded in the driveway, she identified her sister as the attacker, pointing her out to the responding officer.
Brianna Jarrells allegedly confessed to authorities that she used a utility knife during the altercation. She claimed it was intended as a warning and not meant to be fatal. When police later informed her that Alyssa had died at the hospital, Brianna reportedly broke down in tears, expressing disbelief that her actions had led to her sister’s death.
In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover Alyssa’s funeral expenses and to support her three young children. The fundraiser aims to help the family cope with the sudden loss and adjust to their new reality. The family has expressed gratitude for any financial assistance provided, noting that direct donations and gift cards are also welcome.
Brianna Jarrells is currently held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. She is scheduled for a court appearance on September 20. Her public defender has chosen not to comment on the case.
