House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy expressed optimism following his first meeting with President Joe Biden on the issue of the debt ceiling.
“I think that at the end of the day, we can find common ground,” McCarthy said after the meeting.
McCarthy said he sees an “opportunity to come to an agreement” on the debt ceiling, adding that the meeting was “very good.”
However, Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, said that the House GOP should not negotiate on the debt ceiling.
Meanwhile, some experts are concerned that McCarthy’s ambition could cause the US economy to suffer.
McCarthy promised to continue the talks on the debt ceiling, saying he looks forward to “working together to find a solution that is fair to all Americans.”
