MIAMI Police Investigate Double Homicide in Flagami Neighborhood

MIAMI, Florida – Miami police are investigating a tragic double homicide that occurred in the city’s Flagami neighborhood on Wednesday morning. The fatal shooting took place at the Yolanda Villas condominiums, located at 801 NW 47th Ave. According to the Miami Police Department, a man shot and killed a mother and daughter in what authorities described as an ambush after following another person inside the apartment.

The victims, identified as Irisbel Cartalla, 50, and Isbelsy Olivera, 22, were found unresponsive in front of the apartment door. Police initially believed the shooter was Cartalla’s estranged husband, but later said it was her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, 48-year-old Carlos Alexander Travieso. The property manager described Cartalla as a custodian who was “full of life, very happy, outgoing,” and her daughter as a “beautiful person” who did not deserve to have their lives cut short.

Neighbors were shocked by the tragic event, with one neighbor describing Cartalla as a “very wonderful lady” who was “always very happy, very alegre – very, very, very nice lady.” An MPD spokesperson stated that Travieso drove to a nearby police station and confessed to the crime. Officer Kiara Delva of the MPD urged the community to keep the family in their prayers at this time, particularly during the holiday season.

As of late Wednesday, authorities were still gathering information, and the department’s investigation was ongoing. The community is left shaken by the senseless and tragic loss of life. The police department continues to work diligently to uncover all the details surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
