MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee man already facing a murder charge now stands accused of attempting to have witnesses in his case killed, according to newly filed court documents.
DeAndre Williams, 22, appeared before a Milwaukee court commissioner Saturday to face four counts of solicitation of first-degree intentional homicide. The accusations stem from an alleged plot Williams orchestrated while he was behind bars in Milwaukee County Jail, where he is awaiting trial for the September 2023 murder of 17-year-old Romell Campbell.
During the court hearing, the commissioner outlined disturbing details from the criminal complaint. Williams allegedly approached his cellmate—a man whom he believed would be released from jail soon—and tried to persuade him to carry out hits on several individuals connected to his ongoing case. According to officials, Williams handed the inmate a list containing ten names, including witnesses and others who might testify about his character.
Court records indicate Williams used threatening language, reportedly urging his cellmate to “slide on her and shut her up, too,” in reference to one of the intended victims. The inmate, unsettled by the solicitation, instead went to his attorney and authorities, providing them with the information about Williams’ alleged plans.
Williams is currently charged with the shooting death of Campbell, which occurred outside a Milwaukee liquor store last fall. Investigators say Williams, upset about the recent loss of a friend, confronted Campbell as he was leaving the store and ultimately shot the teenager following a brief altercation.
Williams was added to Wisconsin’s Most Wanted list after the murder, prompting him to turn himself in to authorities earlier this year. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the homicide charge and has been held in jail since February on a $310,000 bond, according to court records.
The new allegations of witness tampering and solicitation add a complex layer to Williams’ legal troubles. Legal experts note that such charges are serious and could significantly impact the outcome of his existing murder trial.
His next court appearance is set for July 15, where he will face both the original murder charge and the recent counts of solicitation.
Authorities say the investigation into the alleged murder-for-hire plot remains ongoing. No additional arrests related to this case have been reported.
