Kyiv, Ukraine — As tensions escalate, Russian forces launched a series of ballistic missiles and drones towards Ukraine from various locations on Friday. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed these attacks via social media, prompting widespread concern in the capital.

Reports indicated that debris from the attacks ignited fires in several buildings within Kyiv, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration. Witnesses in the region described hearing multiple explosions as the Ukrainian defense system sought to counter the onslaught.

Tkachenko highlighted the impacts on residential neighborhoods, emphasizing that a high-rise building in the Solomyansky district sustained damage. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, corroborated these claims and noted that fires were also reported in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts of the city.

In response to the escalating threat, air defense systems were mobilized in the Obolon area. Klitschko urged residents to remain vigilant and seek shelter, stating, “The attack on the capital continues. Stay in shelters!”

This latest assault on Kyiv follows a series of significant drone operations conducted by Ukraine’s security services earlier in the week, targeting airfields deep within Russian territory.
