Mother and Son Sentenced for Theft of Nancy Pelosi’s Laptop After Online Sleuths Identify Them

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A mother and son involved in the theft of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s laptop have been sentenced after being identified by online sleuths and arrested by the FBI. Maryann Mooney-Rondon and her son, Rafael Rondon, were sentenced on Wednesday.

The pair was identified after being dubbed as “AirheadLady” and “AirheadBoy” for wearing stolen emergency escape hoods when they emerged from the Capitol. They admitted to stealing the hoods before their identification by online “Sedition Hunters.”

U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb sentenced Rondon to 18 months of home incarceration and Mooney-Rondon to 12 months of home incarceration, describing it as “jail but at home.” They will be confined to their homes 24/7 and will be on probation for five years.

The FBI had mistakenly raided the home of another Donald Trump supporter in Alaska before Mooney-Rondon and Rondon were identified and arrested in October 2021.

The case against the pair was aided by the online “Sedition Hunters,” who have been actively involved in identifying and aiding in hundreds of cases against Capitol rioters.

The sentencing marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings for the mother and son duo involved in the theft of Pelosi’s laptop.

Overall, the pair was sentenced to home incarceration and probation for their involvement in the theft of the laptop, aided by online sleuths and their subsequent arrest by the FBI.
