Murder-Suicide: Joliet massacre suspect used same gun to kill family members and himself

JOLIET, Ill. – The Will County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that murder suspect Romeo Nance used the same handgun to take his own life as he did in the deadly crime spree that killed seven of his relatives. The deadly shooting occurred on Monday, Jan. 22, in unincorporated Joliet Township, where seven people were found fatally shot inside two homes.

Officials have released the timeline of when the murders occurred and have identified the victims who were related to Nance. These victims include Tameka Nance, Christine Esters, William Esters II, Joshua Nance, Alexandria Nance, and two female siblings, aged 16 and 14.

Nance was on the run after the shooting but was eventually captured in Natalia, Texas. It was there that he took his own life after a confrontation with Texas law enforcement. Not long after the incident, Nance’s girlfriend, Kyleigh Cleveland-Singleton, was arrested for obstruction of justice in regard to the investigation into the homicides. She has since been released on electronic monitoring and could face up to six years in prison if convicted.

The Will County detectives traveled to Texas to acquire Nance’s red Toyota Camry that was used during the crime spree. Law enforcement also recovered the firearm used by Nance, giving them valuable evidence to aid in the investigation. However, no further details about the investigation have been released at this time.

It is important to note that police have not disclosed a potential motive for the tragic event, leaving the community in shock and searching for answers. The sequence of events and the involvement of Nance’s girlfriend add depth to the investigation, prompting law enforcement to consider all possible factors in the case.
