Murdered St. Jude Employee’s Heroic Act Leads to Robbery Turned Shooting in Downtown Memphis, Two Arrested

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two individuals are facing charges after a tragic incident at a Tennessee park left a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital employee dead. Alexander Bulakhov, 32, was fatally shot while on a walk with his family at Tom Lee Park in downtown Memphis Sunday night.

According to police, Bulakhov was with his wife and 2-year-old child when a masked man approached them with a gun, demanding their belongings. Bulakhov handed over his wallet, but when the suspect threatened his wife, he attempted to defend her and was shot in the struggle. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Bulakhov succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses reported the suspects fleeing in a white Toyota Camry, and the investigation led authorities to 23-year-old Marious Ward and 22-year-old Brandy Rucker. Both individuals are now facing several charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree murder in perpetration of a robbery, especially aggravated robbery, criminal attempted first-degree murder, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and criminal attempted aggravated robbery.

The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital representative expressed deep sadness over Bulakhov’s tragic death and extended thoughts and prayers to his family. The suspects are due to appear in court Wednesday morning for their charges. The community has been deeply affected by the loss of a dedicated St. Jude employee, leaving many to mourn the tragic incident and contemplate their own sense of safety in the area.
