NASHVILLE, TN – A former Rutherford County attorney, previously suspended from practicing law, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend after a string of arrests for domestic violence incidents involving the same victim.
Jared Streich, 40, was taken into custody Monday following the death of Miranda Gray, 46, at her apartment on Hermitage Park Drive. Authorities say Streich called 911 around 9:30 a.m. and reported that Gray was unresponsive, requesting medical assistance. When responders arrived, Gray was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy later determined that Gray died as a result of strangulation and had suffered multiple injuries, according to Nashville police. Investigators allege that Streich was in violation of bond conditions at the time, stemming from a prior aggravated assault arrest in February in which he was accused of threatening Gray with a knife.
Court documents detail a history of violent encounters between Streich and Gray over the past six months, resulting in four separate arrests of Streich. In February, police responded to a report alleging Streich held Gray at knifepoint during an argument over money. Officers described Streich as displaying a vacant stare upon arrival and said the victim reported feeling threatened and challenged during the incident.
Gray also told police that Streich had previously destroyed her phone in a fight and damaged a keypad security system installed at the apartment. The February accusations led to Streich being ordered to stay away from Gray and her residence as a condition of his bond.
Despite the restraining order, records show Streich was arrested again in April after Gray accused him of pushing her head into a closet door and injuring her arm with a patio door. Those charges, as well as additional charges from a July incident in which Gray alleged Streich cut her wrist with a knife, were later dropped.
Streich faced another arrest on August 3 for violating bond conditions after police responding to a domestic disturbance discovered him at Gray’s apartment in defiance of court orders. He had been indicted by a grand jury for the original February assault, with a court date scheduled for October.
Following the fatal incident this week, Streich was detained again for violating bond restrictions. After autopsy results confirmed Gray’s death was a homicide, he was charged with murder.
During earlier investigations, Gray told authorities she was working with the District Attorney’s Office to pursue prosecution and intended to seek protection and counseling services, though she later declined further assistance. Police say Streich has not provided any statements regarding Gray’s death.
Streich is currently held on $75,000 bond. A court appearance has been set for August 28 as the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
