Los Angeles, California – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, have finalized a new multi-year agreement with Netflix for film and television projects, reversing earlier speculation that the streaming service would not renew their contract. The couple initially partnered with Netflix in 2020, signing a five-year deal estimated at nearly $100 million after stepping back from their royal duties.
Despite some media reports indicating a potential split, which highlighted lackluster viewership of certain projects, the Sussexes’ collaboration with Netflix will continue. Among the projects launched under their production company, Archewell Productions, is Meghan’s lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan. This program, however, faced challenges, failing to crack the top 300 rankings of popular shows on the platform in the first half of the year.
Details of the renewed agreement remain confidential, but the duchess expressed enthusiasm about extending their partnership. “We’re proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together,” she stated. “My husband and I feel inspired by those who collaborate with us to create meaningful content that resonates globally.”
Upcoming projects include a second season of With Love, Meghan, expected to debut later this month, alongside a Christmas special slated for December. Archewell Productions is also in development on Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, a documentary focusing on orphaned children in Uganda affected by the lingering impact of the HIV/AIDS crisis.
In a separate development, Harry’s resignation from the charity Sentebale, which he founded to support children orphaned by AIDS in Lesotho, came after a boardroom dispute earlier this year. A spokesperson recently revealed that he is contemplating launching a new nonprofit to address similar issues in the region.
Moreover, further collaborations with Netflix are in "active development" across various content genres, including a feature film adaptation of Meet Me At The Lake, a popular romantic novel by Carley Fortune.
While the couple’s venture into the entertainment industry has not been without hurdles, as seen with their recent split from Spotify after just 12 podcast episodes, they remain committed to producing diverse and thoughtful programming. Reports indicated that their Spotify deal ended due to unmet productivity expectations, highlighted by critical remarks from Spotify executives.
As their partnership with Netflix unfolds, Harry and Meghan aim to highlight societal issues and inspire audiences through their content while continuing to explore new opportunities in the entertainment space.
