New York Man Convicted of Gruesome Life Insurance Murder as Trial Reveals Shocking Details of Crime

NEW YORK, NY – New York City man, Cory Martin, was found guilty by federal prosecutors for the murder and dismemberment of a woman in a scheme to claim her life insurance. The victim, 26-year-old Brandy Odom, was strangled in her bedroom in 2018, leading to the conviction of Martin for murder for hire and identity theft crimes by a federal jury on Monday.

According to the US attorney’s office of the eastern district of New York, Martin was involved in human trafficking, acting as a pimp for Odom and another individual identified as Adelle Anderson. Both Martin and Anderson obtained a life insurance policy in Odom’s name through fraudulent means in 2017, making payments using Odom’s identity.

During the trial, it was revealed that Martin and Anderson had watched true crime shows like The First 48 and Dexter, discussing methods to avoid being caught by the police. Following the murder, Martin used a reciprocating saw to dismember Odom’s body in the bathtub before disposing of her remains in a park in Brooklyn.

Despite several unsuccessful attempts by Anderson to claim benefits under Odom’s life insurance policies, both individuals were ultimately caught and faced prosecution. The US attorney for the eastern district of New York highlighted the grisly nature of the crime, emphasizing that Martin’s actions were driven by greed and meticulous planning.

As a result of his heinous crime, Cory Martin now faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. The US attorney expressed hope that the verdict would bring a sense of closure to Odom’s family, acknowledging the significance of holding Martin accountable for his atrocious actions.
