Ohio man pours gasoline all over mother of his child and sets her on fire

TOLEDO, OH – Authorities have charged a man with felonious assault, aggravated arson, and domestic violence after an ugly incident on April 28 in Toledo. Delvon Stone, 33, is accused of setting the mother of his child on fire after dousing her with gasoline, according to court records.

The criminal complaint, submitted last week in Toledo Municipal Court, details the harrowing scene.

Following an investigation, officers charged Stone based on the victim’s account, which states he committed the vicious act, leaving her with severe burns that necessitated immediate medical intervention and subsequent surgeries.

“The defendant and the victim share a child together,” states the formal complaint. It elaborates that Stone allegedly assaulted the victim by igniting the gasoline he poured over her, leading to the grievous injuries.

Stone’s first court appearance on Tuesday resulted in the court setting his bond at $250,000. His prior domestic violence convictions add weight to the severity of the new charges. In light of the circumstances, a judge has also issued a temporary protection order for the victim.

Stone, who has requested a public defender, is in legal proceedings with a preliminary hearing slated for June 3. Ohio law views aggravated arson as a first-degree felony, which could result in up to 11 years of imprisonment, while the felonious assault charge, a second-degree felony, may lead to a sentence of up to 8 years.

The law underscores the seriousness of these offenses, aiming to provide justice for victims while emphasizing the consequences of such acts. As the legal process continues, many hope for a resolution that addresses the needs and safety of the victims involved.

In this ongoing case, court-appointed counsel will likely play a critical role in Stone’s defense. However, the charges underscore the importance of addressing and mitigating domestic violence issues through legal and community support channels.
