AKRON, OH – Authorities are searching for a 41-year-old man accused of fatally shooting another man during an early morning confrontation outside a BP gas station this weekend.

Police say Damario McCall approached several women in the parking lot of the station on Grant Street around 4:15 a.m. Sunday, and allegedly began harassing them. When 26-year-old Ar’mon Covington intervened, McCall opened fire, striking him multiple times.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire discovered Covington suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The suspected shooter fled in a red SUV and has not been seen since.

Investigators described McCall as around 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 195 pounds. He was last seen wearing glasses with thick prescription lenses. Law enforcement is warning the public that McCall should be considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities have issued warrants for McCall’s arrest on charges that include murder, illegal possession of a weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon. Police in Akron are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

Family members of the victim are reeling from the loss. Covington’s mother, Na’Tosha Covington, described the pain of losing her only son as devastating, emphasizing the impact the violence has had on her and the community.

She expressed concern for the safety of others and voiced hope that the suspect would be apprehended soon to prevent further harm.

Public records show that McCall was previously released from prison earlier this year, after serving a sentence dating back to 2009, according to state correctional authorities.
