“Ohio Takes Legal Action Against Norfolk Southern for Train Derailment Disaster in East Palestine”

Ohio Attorney General announces lawsuit against Norfolk Southern for East Palestine derailment

Ohio’s Attorney General, Dave Yost, has filed a federal lawsuit against Norfolk Southern for the East Palestine train derailment that happened in March 2020. The lawsuit alleges that the company did not take the necessary precautions and failed to maintain its tracks properly. In addition, it claims that Norfolk Southern violated environmental laws by causing damage to the Little Beaver Creek and nearby wetlands.

The derailment, which occurred in East Palestine, resulted in 22 cars carrying hazardous materials to overturn. The accident caused significant environmental damage, including the leaking of chemicals into the creek, and forced hundreds of local residents to evacuate their homes.

Attorney General Yost said in a statement that Ohio cannot let this kind of negligence continue. He also stated that companies should act more responsibly and be held accountable for their actions.

Norfolk Southern has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
