Outrageous! Southwest Airlines flight drops to just 525 feet above ground – FAA investigating!

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating a recent incident involving a Southwest Airlines flight that descended to just 525 feet above ground as it approached Will Rogers World Airport on Wednesday.

The aircraft triggered an altitude warning from air traffic control for flying too low. Flight 4069 was around 9 miles from the airport, over Yukon, Oklahoma, when it reached this dangerously low altitude, according to data from FlightRadar24.

An air traffic control recording captured a controller alerting the pilots of Southwest Flight 4069 about the low altitude situation. The response from the pilots was not clearly audible in the recording, but the tracking data showed that the Boeing 737-800 briefly climbed before successfully landing in Oklahoma City. Following the incident, the FAA issued a statement confirming the ongoing investigation into the event. The FAA had alerted the crew of the aircraft about the descent to a low altitude nine miles away from the airport.

Southwest Airlines expressed its commitment to safety in a statement, emphasizing the importance of the safety of its passengers and employees. The airline reassured that it was collaborating with the FAA to address any irregularities with the aircraft’s approach to the airport. This incident marks the second recent event involving a Southwest flight experiencing a close call with the ground. In April, a Southwest flight aborted its approach into Lihue Airport in Hawaii and descended to 400 feet above the Pacific Ocean.

The airline industry consistently prioritizes safety measures to ensure the well-being of passengers and crew members. Incidents like the one involving Southwest Flight 4069 serve as reminders of the critical importance of adherence to safety protocols and vigilant monitoring during flights. As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the low altitude incident, authorities will work to determine the contributing factors and implement any necessary corrective measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Southwest Airlines’ proactive approach in cooperating with regulatory agencies underscores the industry’s dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards in air travel.
