EVANSVILLE, IN – A young mother from Indiana has been taken into custody after being accused of nearly causing the death of her one-year-old daughter. Authorities allege that 20-year-old Alexandria G. Ring, who is pregnant, threw her child in frustration over her incessant crying, leading to severe injuries that required immediate medical intervention.

Local law enforcement arrested Ring on Tuesday, charging her with domestic battery of a family member under 14 and neglect of a dependent. Official records present a discrepancy in the spelling of Ring’s first name, alternating between “Alexandrea” and “Alexandria.”

The Evansville Police Department’s notification details the emergency call officers responded to on the evening of November 19, 2024. They were alerted about an unconscious child on South Kentucky Avenue, approximately 165 miles southwest of Indianapolis. First responders, upon arrival, swiftly moved the toddler to a nearby medical facility.

Medical reports reveal the child suffered severe head trauma, including brain swelling and cranial bleeding. Emergency surgery was required to alleviate the pressure on her brain. Apart from these injuries, doctors observed extensive bruising on the child’s body, indicating prior physical harm.

During an interrogation at the police headquarters, Ring reportedly confessed to striking her daughter. She recounted the day’s events, starting with her daughter’s distress after a diaper mishap. Frustration over the baby’s cries allegedly prompted Ring to mishandle her, claiming she accidentally dropped the child due to her pregnancy.

In a distressing sequence of events, Ring allegedly mentioned that after failing to properly place the child in a Pack ‘n Play due to her pregnant state, her daughter fell, hitting her head on a metal cabinet. Despite these incidents, Ring did not immediately seek medical care.

It was not until several hours later, after her boyfriend’s return, that Ring contacted emergency services, even though she had noticed her daughter’s fluctuating consciousness and lethargy much earlier. This delayed response has been noted by authorities as a significant neglect factor.

Currently, Ring remains in custody at Vanderburgh County Jail with a $15,000 cash-only bond. Furthermore, a court order has been issued preventing her from making contact with her daughter.

A hearing has been set for Ring on the afternoon of November 25, 2024, where the charges will be further addressed, and her legal proceedings will begin.
