Los Angeles, California – Nintendo’s highly anticipated Switch 2 preorders finally opened in the US, causing a frenzy among eager gamers. The preorders launched simultaneously at major retailers Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, but the process was not without its challenges.

At the stroke of midnight, customers rushed to secure their preorders, only to encounter significant obstacles. Issues were reported with all three retailers, ranging from checkout difficulties to stock shortages. Target appeared to be the first to open preorders, but customers faced issues during the ordering process, such as payment details being lost or orders being canceled. The retailer later confirmed that both the console and the bundle with Mario Kart World were quickly sold out.

Walmart’s website also experienced a surge in traffic, with customers facing a vague queue and warnings of limited stock availability. However, some customers, including those from The Verge, were able to secure their Switch 2 preorders before stock ran out.

Best Buy, on the other hand, initially displayed a “coming soon” button for the console and bundle pack, causing some confusion among shoppers. Despite delays in the preorder process, many customers reported success in securing their orders through Best Buy.

Nintendo had originally announced the preorders to go live on April 9th ahead of the June 5th launch date, but the company delayed the launch citing tariff concerns. The preorder chaos follows a supply warning issued by Nintendo’s president in Japan, indicating potential challenges in meeting demand for the highly sought-after console.

In a bid to manage expectations, Nintendo also announced that invitations to its direct sales in the US may not be available to everyone ahead of the launch. With preorders already underway in other territories like the UK, anticipation for the Switch 2 remains high despite the preorder challenges faced by US customers.
