Prison Sentenced for Man Involved in Fatal Beating Caught on Video

DEDEDO, Guam – Branty Walliby, 29, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for a fatal beating captured on video in December. The incident resulted in the death of Arnold Narruhn, who was left on life support after the altercation and later passed away at Guam Memorial Hospital a month later. Walliby was found guilty of manslaughter, aggravated assault, and assault by a jury in December.

During sentencing, Judge Alberto Tolentino handed down Walliby’s punishment, highlighting the seriousness of the crime. Attorney General Douglas Moylan expressed the intention to have Walliby deported once he completes his sentence, emphasizing the gravity of the case and the impact on the victim’s family.

According to Moylan, Walliby, a non-U.S. citizen, was responsible for the violent assault that led to Narruhn’s untimely death. The judge did not consider Walliby a first-time offender due to his previous felony charge while on pre-trial release. The violence took place in Dededo, prompting police response to a disturbance near Manejero Apartments in December 2022.

In connection with the case, Walliby’s brother, Jerron Walliby, also faced charges and later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. The outcome of the trial underscores the consequences of violent actions and the efforts to pursue justice for the victims and their families. The community is reminded of the importance of accountability and upholding the law to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of violent actions, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability in cases of assault and manslaughter. The impact on the victim’s family and the community at large underscores the importance of maintaining peace and safety for all residents. As Walliby serves his sentence, the legal proceedings offer closure and justice for the loved ones of Arnold Narruhn.
