Professor’s Hit List at University of Nevada, Las Vegas Had Over 150 Rounds of Ammo

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – A 67-year-old gunman killed three faculty members and wounded a fourth in a roughly 10-minute rampage at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The motive is still being investigated, but police found a list of targets at the school and more than 150 rounds of ammunition in the gunman’s possession.

The suspect, Anthony Polito, was a longtime business professor and had applied for several jobs at various colleges and universities in Nevada, but was denied each time. Investigators are still looking into his motive, but it was revealed that he had a list of faculty members at East Carolina University in North Carolina, where he was a professor from 2001 to 2017.

Before the shooting, Polito mailed 22 letters to university faculty members across the U.S., some containing an unknown white powder that was later found to be harmless. The gunman arrived at the university about 15 minutes before the shooting and roamed the top three floors of the Lee Business School. The shooting ended around 11:55 a.m. when Polito left the building and was confronted by police and fatally shot.

Two of the victims, business school professors Patricia Navarro-Velez and Cha Jan “Jerry” Chang, were identified. The wounded man, a visiting professor, remains hospitalized. Classes at UNLV were canceled through Friday.
