Recall Alert: Kraft Heinz Pulls Thousands of Cheese Cases Due to Choking Hazard

Facing a surge in consumer complaints regarding plastic contamination, Kraft Heinz has embarked upon a recall of an estimated 83,800 cases of their processed cheese. The multinational food conglomerate acknowledged that plastic residue was reportedly remaining attached to cheese slices, which presenting choking hazards.

The company issued a voluntary recall notice on Tuesday, divulging that a machine utilized to wrap its cheese products was hit by temporary malfunction. According to Kraft Heinz, the equipment malfunction resulted in a ‘thin strip of the individual film’ adhering to the cheese slice even after consumers removed the wrapper.

The potential danger arises when the residue remains on the cheese slice and is ingested inadvertently. This could initiate a gagging reflex or even potentiate choking hazards, said the company in its notice. The film strip’s lingering adhesion to the cheese increases the propensity for it to be ingested mistakenly and could make for an unpleasant eating experience.

The recall pertains to certain Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices, and specifically targets cases where the issue has been confirmed or is highly suspected. While an unpleasant experience at its least, the worst-case scenario sees the potential for the film strip posing a choking hazard to the unwary consumer.

The company took pains to assure consumers that their cheese is safe when consumed, provided the film strip has been removed. However, considering the risk posed due to the possible presence of these film strips, Kraft Heinz deemed it necessary to initiate this widespread recall.

In summary, Kraft Heinz has decided to recall approximately 83,800 cases of its processed cheese due to potential plastic contamination. The issue was traced back to a malfunctioning wrapping machine.
