Ridiculous! Sabrina Ionescu Breaks NBA and WNBA Records in Three-Point Contest Win

Sabrina Ionescu Sets New Three-Point Record at WNBA All-Star Weekend

Las Vegas, NV – At the WNBA All-Star Weekend, New York Liberty’s point guard Sabrina Ionescu delivered an impressive performance, setting a new record in the three-point contest. Her remarkable achievement earned her high praise from none other than legendary shooter Steph Curry.

Known for his exceptional accuracy from beyond the three-point line, Curry himself labeled Ionescu’s performance as “RIDICULOUS,” a testament to her extraordinary skill. The 25-year-old Ionescu scored 37 out of 40 possible points, hitting an impressive 25 out of 27 shots, securing the three-point contest crown.

Ionescu’s outstanding round broke not only the previous WNBA record of 30 points set by Allie Quigley last year but also surpassed the NBA’s single-round record of 31 points set by Curry in 2021 and Tyrese Haliburton in 2023.

Praising Ionescu’s accomplishment, Quigley took to Twitter, stating, “UNBELIEVABLE!!! This record won’t ever be broken.”

The event saw Ionescu outperform Seattle Storm’s Sami Whitcomb, who secured second place with 22 points, and Dallas Wings’ Arike Ogunbowale, who finished third with 11 points.

Reflecting on her performance, Ionescu shared, “I was just focused on making one at a time. I wasn’t sure how many I’d miss, but I knew it wasn’t a lot. I’m happy to have won this and thankful for the crowd; they were cheering me on the entire time.”

In the three-point contest, players take five shots from five different locations around the three-point line, along with two attempts from a deeper range. Each rack contains four regular orange balls worth one point each and one multi-colored money ball, which is worth two points. Shots from deeper range are valued at three points.

Additionally, each player selects one of their five racks as their specialized rack, with each ball in that rack worth two points. Ionescu made every one of her selected specialized shots, earning herself a perfect 10 points.

This impressive record-breaking performance adds to Ionescu’s achievements in her basketball career. She will make her second career WNBA All-Star game appearance on Saturday, joining other notable players like Phoenix Mercury’s Brittney Griner, Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson, and Indiana Fever’s Aliyah Boston at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas.

As the WNBA All-Star Weekend continues, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing the outstanding skills and performances of these basketball superstars.
