Riot Sparks Mass Escape: Nine Teenagers Flee Pennsylvania Detention Center Amidst Chaos

Morgantown, Pennsylvania – A disturbance at the Abraxas Academy, a youth and family services facility, led to the escape of multiple teenagers on Sunday, according to authorities. Law enforcement responded to the event which they described as a riot at the juvenile detention center, and were able to bring the situation under control.

The escapees, numbering at nine, made their exit during the chaos, police reports said. Multiple agencies, including both state and local law enforcement, are now engaged in an extensive search for the runaway adolescents. A secure perimeter has been established around the institution as part of the ongoing attempt to locate the escaped individuals, authorities said.

David Beohm, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police troop in Reading, advised the public to immediately contact 911 if they encounter any of the escapees. They might be seen wearing either gray or white shirts, with gray shorts or pants, suggested by the Caernarvon Township Police Department.

As the search for the escapees continues, the Pennsylvania State Police force is working closely with Caernarvon authorities, aiming to bring the situation to a conclusion.

Interestingly, the Abraxas Academy, located about 15 miles west of South Coventry Township, is in close proximity to the area where escaped murder convict Danilo Cavalcante was captured earlier this week.

The Abraxas Academy describes itself as a “secure residential treatment program,” offering specialized care to male juveniles aged between 14 to 18 who are in 9th grade or above. They cater to individuals displaying consistent delinquent behavior patterns, resulting either from serious charges or multiple placements.

Officials from both the Abraxas Academy and the Berks County District Attorney’s Office have yet to issue official statements responding to the events of Sunday evening.
