Karachi, Pakistan – Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar took swift action on Friday by suspending the station house officer at Sharea Faisal Police Station in response to the tragic death of a 38-year-old man during a robbery in Karachi’s Johar Chowrangi area.
Lanjar expressed his deep concern over the incident, stating that such acts of violence are unacceptable and must be addressed promptly to control the rising street crime in the city.
The victim, Rahber Ali, lost his life after bravely resisting a robbery attempt, leading to fatal consequences as the perpetrators resorted to gunfire. The authorities reported that vigilant citizens managed to apprehend one of the robbers, who was injured, while the other fled the scene.
Karachi has been plagued by a wave of street crimes, with six individuals losing their lives during Ramadan due to resisting robbery attempts. This alarming trend has left the citizens feeling unsafe and vulnerable in their own communities, with many questioning the effectiveness of law enforcement in combating such crimes.
In a heartbreaking statement to the media, Akhtar Hussain, the father of Rahber Ali, painted a poignant picture of his son as a kind-hearted individual who took care of his siblings and worked diligently to support his family. Hussain lamented the harsh reality of poverty driving individuals to commit such heinous acts, reflecting on the devastating impact of these crimes on innocent lives.
Describing the ordeal of receiving news of his son’s death during the early morning hours, Hussain expressed a sentiment echoed by many in Karachi – that living in Pakistan has become synonymous with punishment, as the prevalence of crime continues to cast a shadow of fear and insecurity over the community.
