Robbers Smash Showcases at Manhattan Beach Jewelry Store in Bold Daylight Heist

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – A jewelry store in Manhattan Beach was robbed on Saturday by five individuals who smashed showcases and stole merchandise. However, the robbery was cut short when an employee fired a shot in their direction. With the suspects fleeing the store and escaping in awaiting vehicles, the police are now seeking to apprehend them. No employees were injured during the incident. The incident occurred just three days after Manhattan Beach police Officer Chad Swanson tragically died in a car crash on his way to work.

According to the Manhattan Beach Police Department, the robbery occurred around 12:40 p.m. at Prestige Jewelers on N. Sepulveda Boulevard. The suspects, wearing hoodies and armed with hammers, made off with some of the jewelry from the store. However, an employee was able to defend themselves by firing a shot at the suspects, prompting them to flee.

Law enforcement officials from the Gardena and El Segundo police departments responded to the incident in support of the Manhattan Beach officers. The Mayor of Manhattan Beach, Richard Montgomery, expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by these departments, emphasizing the city’s commitment to keeping its residents safe.
