RODENT-CONTAMINATED RICE RECALLED IN 7 STATES – MUST-READ ALERT

Los Angeles, California – Lundberg Family Farms announced a recall of their “Sustainable Wild Blend Gourmet Rice” in 2024 in seven states due to potential contamination with a foreign object believed to be of rodent origin. The Food and Drug Administration stated that approximately 4,600 cases of the 16-ounce polybags are impacted by this recall, amounting to over 27,000 bags.

The blend of black, brown, red, and wild rice was found to be affected by the recall, with the FDA categorizing it as a “Class II” recall. This classification indicates that while the consequences of consuming the product are not serious, there is still a potential risk of adverse health effects. The recall was initially announced in May 2024 but only received its official classification by the FDA on July 17 of the same year.

A representative from Lundberg Family Farms emphasized that the recall was conducted as a precautionary measure, ensuring that the products are no longer available for purchase. Despite the contamination concerns, no reported illnesses have been linked to the consumption of the affected rice products. The recall specifically targets bags with the UPC number 73416-00430, lot code 231004, and the best by date of October 4, 2024.

The recalled rice products were distributed in grocery stores across Arizona, California, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Wisconsin, prompting consumers who have purchased the affected items to discard them and seek a refund from their retailer. It is important to note that other rice products from Lundberg Family Farms or bags of Sustainable Wild Blend Gourmet Rice with distinct lot numbers remain unaffected by the recall.

As a final precautionary measure, customers are advised to dispose of any recalled rice products and reach out to the store of purchase for a refund. Lundberg Family Farms assures the public that they are committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and quality in their products.
