Roommate stabs 23-year-old nursing student two dozen times because of fight about cat

HOUSTON, TX – A nursing student, days away from her graduation, was tragically killed by her roommate in a dispute over their cats, according to authorities.

Chester Lamar Grant, 40, has been charged with murder following the death of 23-year-old Tamilore Odunsi. Originally from the U.K., Odunsi was discovered dead on April 26 after police conducted a welfare check at her southside Houston apartment.

Officers, responding to the scene shortly before 4 p.m., found blood on the patio and entered the apartment, where they came across Odunsi with multiple stab wounds in the kitchen. Grant was found in the bedroom, also injured with at least one stab wound. Odunsi was pronounced dead at the scene, while Grant was transported to a hospital with critical injuries.

Officials reported that Odunsi and Grant had been living together for only a couple of months. Their ongoing dispute over the care of their cats allegedly escalated, resulting in the fatal confrontation.

It is believed that Grant attempted to take his own life after the incident. He was later apprehended and taken to the Harris County Jail, with a bond set at $500,000.

Odunsi, known to her TikTok followers as “Tami Dollars” or “TD,” was remembered by her family through a GoFundMe campaign. The family described her as a radiant soul filled with ambition and faith, highlighting her involvement in her church community. “Tami was a devoted Christian who sought joy and strength through her faith,” reads the fundraiser, adding she was eager to serve others with humility.

Tamilore Odunsi was on the brink of fulfilling her dream to become a nurse, with aspirations to work with children once she achieved her nursing degree. Her family described her death as an irreplaceable loss, coming just before what was supposed to be a momentous new chapter in her life.

The accused, Grant, is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday, as the community remains shocked and mourns the loss of a promising young life.
