MOSCOW, RUSSIA – In a tragic turn of events, a military aircraft carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war was reportedly shot down over Russia’s western Belgorod region, according to Russia’s Ministry of Defense. The ministry claimed that the II-76 aircraft was struck by two Ukrainian missiles, leading to the deadly crash. The exact details of what happened are still unconfirmed, but Russian radar systems allegedly detected the launch of the missiles that hit the plane.
The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War cautioned against spreading unverified information and accused the enemy of carrying out information special operations to destabilize Ukrainian society. The plane was carrying a total of 65 prisoners of war, six crew members, and three individuals accompanying the prisoners from Chkalovsky, near Moscow, to Belgorod for a planned prisoner exchange.
