San Antonio Teen Arrested for Murder in Shooting of 61-Year-Old

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – An 18-year-old man has been taken into custody Thursday in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man back in September. Tristan Avery Lerma is facing murder charges for the death of Michael Molina, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

The incident, which took place on the evening of Aug. 30, saw Molina being shot multiple times outside of his residence in the 3300 block of Bob Billa Street. The victim’s grandson, who was believed to be the intended target, reported seeing two individuals firing shots after getting out of a vehicle. It was revealed that the grandson had been involved in a previous homicide investigation, leading to the belief that he was the target of the attack.

Molina succumbed to his injuries a week after the shooting, while his family dog was unfortunately killed by gunfire. The victim’s wife and children, who were inside the home at the time of the incident, fortunately escaped unharmed. However, a neighbor did manage to return fire, hitting the suspects’ vehicle. Just four minutes later, a juvenile from the vehicle arrived at an urgent care clinic with a gunshot wound.

Investigators were able to identify Lerma as a suspect through an interview with the wounded teen’s mother and by analyzing surveillance video and social media posts. Lerma has a history of legal issues, having been charged with eight different crimes this year alone. In the weeks prior to his arrest on murder charges, he was released on bond for unauthorized use of a vehicle, only to be arrested again a few days later. His bonds have been set at $450,000.

The arrest warrant affidavit did not name a second suspect involved in the shooting, as he is a minor. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to bring all those responsible to justice.
