Today, the Senate held a hearing to discuss the controversial debacle surrounding Taylor Swift’s recent ticket sales. The event was streamed live on multiple platforms and was attended by industry executives.
The hearing was called after Ticketmaster, the company responsible for selling tickets to Swift’s upcoming tour, faced backlash for its ticket selling practices. Many fans were outraged after they were unable to purchase tickets despite being online at the exact time of sale.
Ticketmaster’s CEO, Michael Rapino, defended the company’s practices and blamed the issue on a cyber attack. He said the attack caused a surge in website traffic which led to the tickets selling out in a matter of minutes.
The hearing was also attended by Taylor Swift’s manager, Scooter Braun, who spoke about the importance of protecting fans and ensuring they have access to tickets.
The Senate hearing is still ongoing and it is unclear what the outcome will be. However, it is hoped that it will lead to changes in the ticketing industry that will prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.
