Sentence Probation for Middletown Man After 4-Year-Old Shoots Himself with Unsecured Gun in SUV

A Middletown, Ohio man has been sentenced to probation for an incident in which his 4-year-old sibling accidentally shot himself with an unsecured gun. Yvonte I. Glover, 26, was indicted for child endangering after his loaded handgun was found by the boy and used to shoot himself in the abdomen on April 12 in Jacot Park.

Glover pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of attempted improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and was sentenced to two years probation. He has been ordered to stay away from guns, bars, drugs, and alcohol. Glover spent a few days in jail this month awaiting sentencing after violating his own recognizance bond with a misdemeanor arrest for domestic violence.

The child has since recovered from the shooting, according to officials. The incident occurred in the park where Glover was present with four young children, including the injured boy, and his girlfriend, according to Middletown police. The boy found the gun in the SUV and fired it when he went back for a drink of water. The 9-millimeter handgun was left unsecured in the vehicle.

Glover was also arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence in Akron, which is still pending in court. The 4-year-old’s recovery and the dangers of leaving guns unsecured in vehicles highlight the importance of responsible firearm handling and storage to prevent tragic accidents.
