Serial Killer Arrested for Unprovoked Fatal Shootings of Homeless Men in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California – A string of fatal shootings occurred this week in the Los Angeles area, where three homeless men were killed in unprovoked attacks. The suspect, Jerrid Joseph Powell, 33, has been arrested and linked to these senseless killings. The shootings, which took place over a span of four days, included the murders of the homeless men as well as another homicide involving a follow-home robbery.

Authorities identified Powell’s vehicle at the scene of all three homicides, and a handgun found in the vehicle was positively identified as the murder weapon. The suspect was also tied to the home robbery shooting, leading to his arrest on Thursday. Police and officials expressed relief at his capture, emphasizing the danger Powell posed to the community.

The motive for the shootings remains unclear, but Chief Michel Moore stated that the men were murdered “without provocation.” He added that there is a possibility Powell may have committed other crimes as well, citing a willingness to travel long distances, as seen in the San Dimas murder case.

The victim of the home-robbery shooting, 42-year-old Nicholas Simbolon, tragically lost his life. Authorities are investigating whether Powell may be linked to other cases, and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The arrest of the suspect brings an end to the alarming spate of violence that had gripped the Los Angeles area, offering some relief to the affected community. Authorities continue their efforts to ensure that all those responsible for these heinous crimes are held accountable.
