Washington, D.C. – Shakira’s concert scheduled for Saturday as part of the WorldPride festival has been canceled due to complications arising from her recent show in Boston. The cancellation marks a disappointing turn for fans eager to see the Colombian pop star perform.
Nationals Park, the venue for the Washington, D.C. concert, announced that challenges from the Boston concert rendered it impossible to transport the full stage production in time. The venue stated in a release that “despite every effort,” the concert could not proceed as planned, leaving many ticket holders frustrated.
The singer expressed her sorrow over the cancellation, stating she was “devastated” that the performances could not materialize. Shakira, 48, explained that unforeseen circumstances impacted her and other artists in Boston, leaving her unable to transfer her complete production setup to D.C. in a timely manner. She shared that she had been eagerly anticipating these shows, hoping to reconnect with her fans in both cities.
The cancellation in Boston occurred abruptly on May 29, just before Shakira was slated to take the stage at Fenway Park. That event was called off due to safety concerns regarding the stage, which were uncovered during routine checks. Other performances scheduled around the same time, including those by country artists Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn, also faced cancellation.
Live Nation, the management company for the tour, confirmed that “structural elements were identified as not being up to standard,” prompting the immediate decision to cancel the show for safety reasons. Fans took to social media to voice their disappointment, with some traveling great distances, including from Los Angeles, to attend the concert.
Despite the negative experience, many fans rallied in support of Shakira, acknowledging the difficulties that can emerge during live performances. The pop star is currently on her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour, promoting her latest studio album, and is set to perform next in Atlanta on June 2.
As the tour continues, ticket holders for the canceled performances are assured of automatic refunds, hoping for better outcomes in future shows. Fans remain hopeful that Shakira will find a way to reconnect with them, despite this setback.
