Byneset, Norway — A man’s quiet morning routine was abruptly interrupted when a massive container ship ran aground in his front garden. The incident unfolded around 5 a.m. local time Thursday, just a few meters from Johan Helberg’s home near Trondheim.

Helberg learned of the mishap from a concerned neighbor who witnessed the vessel heading straight for shore. “I was in disbelief when I peered through the window and saw this enormous ship so close,” Helberg recounted. He noted the surreal nature of the scene, describing how he had to tilt his head back to take in the towering structure.

Neighbor Jostein Jorgensen was alarmed by the sounds of the ship barreling toward land. Reflecting on the unusual situation, Helberg quipped, “It’s a very bulky new neighbor, but I expect it will be leaving soon.” Reports indicate that this is not the first time the NCL Salten has encountered trouble at sea; the vessel previously ran aground in 2023 but managed to free itself.
