COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Washington D.C. – A shocking incident unfolded on the streets of Columbia Heights, Washington D.C. when 17-year-old Lorenzo Thompson allegedly opened fire at the Crown gas station while his mother allegedly stood by and did nothing. The shooting occurred on November 3rd and resulted in the death of 14-year-old Niko Estep, with another person also sustaining injuries.

Surveillance footage captured the disturbing scene, showing Thompson in a black hoodie and balaclava brandishing a gun outside the gas station, with his mother, identified by her red braids and white coat, reportedly watching without intervening. Two victims were shot and taken to the hospital, but tragically, Estep did not survive.

Days after the shooting, Thompson allegedly took to Instagram to boast about the killing, with court documents indicating that he showed no remorse and appeared to be celebrating the incident. Police also found evidence tying Thompson to the crime, including the same apparel worn by the shooter in the surveillance video, as well as an ammunition magazine matching the gun used in the shooting.

Thompson has since been arrested and charged as an adult with second-degree murder while armed, with a judge ordering his detention and setting a hearing for November 16. The motive for the deadly gunfire has not been disclosed, and Thompson’s mother, who was present during the shooting, has not been charged in connection with the case.
