MORENO VALLEY, CA – Authorities in Riverside County have charged a California couple with the murder, torture, and abuse of their 10-year-old adopted son, who died after being hospitalized for severe injuries.

Alejandra Marin, 51, and Juan Sanchez Moreno, 59, face serious charges, including murder and willful child harm. Officials apprehended the couple on Friday, subsequent to a comprehensive investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide and Special Victims units.

On the afternoon of November 21, deputies arrived at a residence in the 13000 block of Malibu Court following reports of a child in dire medical condition. The 10-year-old boy was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care, where medical staff initially stabilized him.

Tragically, the child’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he succumbed to his injuries hours later, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office confirmed that Marin and Moreno were taken into custody following the discovery of distressing evidence linking them to the child’s untimely death. Details of the alleged torture have not been publicly disclosed.

As per jail records, both Marin and Moreno are detained at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside without bail. While Marin is set to make a court appearance on Tuesday, details concerning Moreno’s legal proceedings remain undisclosed at this time.
