Shooting Near L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station in Southwest Leaves One Dead: Police Investigate

WASHINGTON – The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting that took place near the L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station in Southwest. The incident occurred at a bus stop around 4:30 a.m. the day after Christmas.

According to detectives, witnesses saw two men engaged in a conversation at the bus stop before gunshots were fired. Police were alerted to the shooting and arrived at the scene on Maryland Avenue, Southwest, at approximately 4:25 a.m.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene and boarded a nearby Metrobus following the shooting. Surveillance footage captured the individual police believe to be responsible for the crime.

At this time, authorities are unsure about the nature of the conversation between the two men or whether they were acquainted with each other. However, they do not believe there was a physical altercation prior to the gunfire.

During the time of the incident, the L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station was closed. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of their next of kin.
