Shooting Outside Missouri High School Leaves Child and Another Injured in Active Investigation

NORTH KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – A shooting outside a Missouri high school on Saturday left a child and at least one other person injured, as North Kansas City Police responded to the disturbing incident. The tragedy unfolded less than a month after the area had been rocked by a mass shooting at a Super Bowl celebration.

According to North Kansas City Police Sgt. Christopher Kimmel, two victims were rushed to a local hospital following the shooting. Initially, both victims were in critical condition, but later reports indicated that the juvenile’s condition had been upgraded to serious but stable. The second victim, whose age was not disclosed, was also receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

At this time, no suspects have been taken into custody, and the number of individuals involved in the shooting remains unclear. The police are actively investigating the incident, reviewing video footage from the scene and speaking with witnesses. Gunshots were heard outside North Kansas City High School following a game.

During the game, two Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputies on duty swiftly responded to the scene, finding one wounded person outside. Further details about the location of the second victim were not provided by the authorities, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing as they seek to determine if there are additional victims.

Authorities disclosed that the shooting occurred outside the building on the east side following the game between North Kansas City High School and Staley High School, prompting all attendees inside to remain indoors as law enforcement handled the situation. Witnesses recounted seeing an individual fleeing from the scene, which was situated at the entrance to the football field.

The occurrence casts a shadow over the Kansas City metro area, still grappling with the aftermath of a shooting during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration rally last month. As residents continue to process these traumatic events, North Kansas City Schools expressed its commitment to a comprehensive police investigation, ensuring that anyone impacted receives direct support.
