New Delhi, India – Leaders of the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom have expressed concern over allegations surrounding the death of Sikh separatist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, based on information provided by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. These allegations have reportedly sparked concern among these nations, marking the first formal international reaction to the case.

Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, voiced US concerns over the matter. Watson emphasised the importance of the continuation and thoroughness of the ongoing Canadian investigation to ensure that justice is appropriately meted out for the perpetrators involved in the incident.

The reaction from the United Kingdom demonstrated a similar concern. An official British spokesperson pointed out that while they are in regular communication with their Canadian counterparts, commenting further on the ongoing investigation would be inappropriate at the current stage. Furthermore, a representative for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sought to reassure that the situation would not jeopardize trade talks between India and the UK.

Meanwhile, Australia’s response displayed a slight divergence from its allies. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, in response to a question about Nijjar’s death, advised the press to “chill a bit.” Nevertheless, the Australian Foreign Ministry expressed that it had serious discussions with India regarding the latter’s alleged involvement in Nijjar’s death.

Despite the spike of international concern, no further comments were made as each nation respects the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The leaders of these nations are prioritising diplomatic channels of communication to ensure peaceful resolutions while eagerly awaiting the findings of the investigation.
